Maria Kokkori is associate conservation scientist for scholarly initiatives in the department of conservation and science at the Art Institute of Chicago and visiting lecturer at the University of Chicago. She received her PhD from the Courtauld Institute of Art in 2007 and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Institute. Her research and teaching focus on early twentieth-century European art, with a special interest in Russian modernism, the materiality of art, the characterization of materials in artworks and their deterioration and the intersections among art, science and technology. Her research has been supported by the Art Institute of Chicago, Courtauld Institute of Art, Getty Research Institute, and the Malevich Society, New York.
