Jörg Thadeusz in conversation with Marcel Wanders
Marcel Wanders is considered the “enfant terrible” of the design world. His ideas for furniture and interior design items are surprising, offbeat and exciting. The multi-award-winning Dutch Designer came to international fame in 1996 with his “Knotted Chair” for Droog Design. Many of his pieces have become true design icons. Wanders’ chief concern is bringing the human touch back to design, ushering in what he calls design’s ‘new age’, in which designer, craftsperson and user are reunited. In his process, Wanders defies design dogma, preferring instead to focus on holistic solutions rather than the technocratic. In his universe the coldness of industrialism is replaced by the poetry, fantasy and romance of different ages, vividly brought to life in the contemporary moment.
