Hella Jongerius invites you to the table. With a narrative installation, the internationally award-winning designer and Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg invite you to rediscover the theme of re-use – in a creative, sustainable and forward-looking way. A cooperation project by Die Neue Sammlung – The Design Museum and Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg on the occasion of mcbw 2023
HELLA JONGERIUS, born in 1963 near Utrecht, founded her studio Jongeriuslab in 1993 after studying at the Design Academy in Eindhoven. Since then she has been researching and developing products, collections and interiors for international companies such as Maharam, KLM, Vitra and Danskina. She has lived and worked in Berlin since 2009. Jongerius sees her work as a never-ending process. Their designs combine the latest technological achievements with, in some cases, centuries-old handcraft techniques. For the Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg she designed the Nymphenburger Sketch dinnerware and the Four Seasons collection. The most well-known are the animal bowls which can be seen in the world’s most famous design museums to this day.
NYMPHENBURG is the last manufactory of its kind where everything is made entirely by hand. The fine art of porcelain production has been cultivated in the manufactory of the Bavarian royal family since it was founded in 1747. Here, to this day “Manu Factum” still means entirely made by hand using techniques that are passed on and preserved from generation to generation. The master workshops at the Nördliches Schlossrondell in Munich produce style-defining services and artefacts that are ahead of their time, as well as bespoke interior solutions – designed to this day by the most renowned artists, architects, and designers.
