Everyone is a Designer?
Open call for homemade design objects
How can design contribute to society’s social and cultural development? Design objects always come about in a political context and their development is often motivated by socio-political goals. The ten-month exhibition Friedrich von Borries. Design of Politics. Politics of Design (November 2018 – September 2019) analyzes these political aspects by twelve different interventions.
In the context of this exhibition Die Neue Sammlung is inviting amateur designers and DIY enthusiasts to bring their homemade objects to the museum. These objects will be part of one intervention after a public jury.
WHEN? Participants will present their projects on September 16, 2018 at the Togetthere-Xperience Day, an interactive open day at Pinakothek der Moderne.
WHERE? At Pinakothek der Moderne in front of the Die Neue Sammlung display case from 2.00 to 4.00 p.m. All participants will then jointly select those that will be showcased in Die Neue Sammlung for the duration of the exhibition stated above.
WHY? Ever since there has been design, design museums have decided what is worth to be collected. Yet many visitors have a different perspective on what they like best, or what they like to craft, build or produce themselves, and with which objects they wish to surround themselves. With the “Everyone is a Designer?” project, Die Neue Sammlung is inviting participants to juxtapose their objects with those of the museum.
WHO? Participation is open to anyone who has designed something, with the exception of professional designers.
