PANEL DISCUSSION

Design for the Olympics. Munich 1972 in context

The 1972 Olympic Games stand out due to a comprehensive design concept, unique in its scope, that was developed under the direction of Otl Aicher. In this panel discussion, contemporary witnesses and experts will discuss the concepts, ideas and courses of action that lay behind the design of the Olympic Games. Under what conditions was the visual identity created? What significance did it have for the external impact and for the people who worked there? And does the “corporate identity” of the Olympic Games in Munich still serve as a role model today?
With Prof. Michael Burke, Chair of Design Theory and Design History at the Schule für Gestaltung Ravensburg; Markus Osterwalder, designer, curator and collector, Herisau; Karsten de Riese, photographer, near Munich.

Moderation: Prof. Dr. Christopher Young, literary scholar and sports historian, University of Cambridge

Dialog guidance “Olympic equipment. Material and design”
at Museum Mineralogia and Die Neuen Sammlung – The Design Museum with curators

The Olympic Games are a major driver in the development and improvement of sports equipment. The material and shape of the equipment used can determine victory or defeat. Using selected examples from the exhibition at the Museum Mineralogia and the Neue Sammlung – The Design Museum, the curators of both museums show what innovations in material and form can be found in certain sports equipment.

WHIZZ

Design workshop for all from 8
with Enrica Ferrucci, architect / ichbaumit

How do sports, movement and speed actually get into a design poster? And light and shadow? We’ll investigate by bringing them out again, in our own way! We’ll get inspiration from the exhibition tour of ‘Design for the Olympics’ and then we’ll whiz to the joint building workshop in Pavilion 333.
These two workshops are free of charge with the kind support of PIN.Freunde der Pinakothek der Moderne
The number of participants is limited, so please register at:
programm@pinkothek-der-moderne.de

SUN 25.09.2022 | 2.00-5.00 pm
P.S. You don’t have time on the two Sundays? Or would you rather build at home or surprise someone with it? No problem! „Pushing Boundaries“
Switzerland 2021 – Director: Lesia Kordonets – Original: English, Ukrainian – Subtitles: English

Sport and politics have never been completely separable. When the Crimean peninsula was annexed by Russia in 2014, the Ukrainian Paralympic team lost their new training centre overnight. For five athletes and an enchantingly imperturbable official, it is the start of the long road to medals in Rio de Janeiro. Jan Sebening

„Over the Limit“
Poland/Finland/Germany, 2017 – Director: Marta Prus – Original: Russian – Subtitles: English

She takes a bow after every competition with a smile on her face, yet beyond public view Rita tends to be serious. The pressure that the Russian gymnast is under is immense. Day after day she stoically endures her trainer’s harsh tone. The film spends a year with the 20-year-old as she heads towards the Olympics – and an important decision. Samay Claro
Pre-film „No Limits“
By Adrian Strohmer, Fabian Gruber, Anna Meck and Kilian Glassner
Ben Neumann is 17 years old. He wears a black wetsuit and a yellow helmet at our meeting. Only the three dots on Ben’s helmet tell us that he is blind. Ben’s big dream is to participate in the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles.

„Run Like a Girl“
Denmark 2019 – Director: Katrine W. Kjær – Original: English, Kiswahili – Subtitles: English
A radical film that reveals the gap between the world of top-class Olympic sports and the real life of Kenyan marathon runner Visiline Jepkesho. With the not particularly lavish prize money she has to feed her whole extended family. Daniel Sponsel
