Darrin Alfred is the associate curator of architecture, design and graphics at the Denver Art Museum. In this capacity, Alfred’s primary responsibilities include the acquisition, presentation, and interpretation of objects in the architecture, design and graphics collection, in addition to the organization of special exhibitions. Alfred, who joined the museum in November 2007, organized The Psychedelic Experience: Rock Posters from the San Francisco Bay Area, 1965–71 (2009), which showcased more than 300 works from the museum’s collection of posters promoting dance concerts from the 1960s and early 1970s. Other exhibitions that Alfred has curated include Pattern Play: The Contemporary Designs of Jacqueline Groag (2013) and Potters of Precision: The Coors Porcelain Company (2011), among others. He also coordinated the Denver presentation of Yves Saint Laurent – The Retrospective (2012).
Prior to his work at the Denver Art Museum, Alfred served as curatorial associate and assistant curator at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art from October 2000 to November 2007. Alfred earned a bachelor’s degree in architectural studies from the University of Pittsburgh. He received a master’s in landscape architecture from the University of Colorado at Denver.
