Exhibition curator Corinna Rösner will view Tanaka’s posters with the theme of the face in the context of his oeuvre and the central role he played in Japanese graphic design from the 1960s until his sudden death in 2002. Still in today’s Japan he is hold in high regard as can be seen in exhibitions, scientific research projects as well as, for example, in recent collections of fashion designer Issey Miyake using graphic designs – including “face” posters – of Ikko Tanaka, with whom he was close friends.
