Die Neue Sammlung – The Design Museum Munich invites the Tolerance Posters Project to Germany. From March 30 to April 29, 2021, the poster project initiated by Mirko Ilić will be on display at over ten different locations in Munich’s Kunstareal.
Since 2017, graphic designer Mirko Ilić has been asking designers to create a poster on the theme of tolerance. The only requirement is that the poster must contain the word tolerance in the respective national language. The first poster was contributed by New York designer Milton Glaser, who also created the project logo and died last year at the age of 91. Since then, 169 designers from all over the world have participated. The result is the greatest possible variety of ideas and implementations, from purely typographic works to photographic posters and illustrations. After 64 stops in 27 countries, a selection of over 90 different posters will now be on display in Germany for the first time.
Mirko Ilić is one of the most outstanding graphic designers of his generation. He spent his early creative years in his native Bosnia, where he made a name for himself as a draftsman and comic illustrator. After moving to New York, he became art director of Time magazine, and started to design covers for magazines such as Der Spiegel, The Nation and also for the music band Rage Against The Machine.
As in all the other locations around the world where the Tolerance Posters Project has been shown, the posters can be viewed free of charge and freely accessible at Munich’s Kunstareal.
