Maria João Melo is Associate Professor at the Department of Conservation and Restoration of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology – NOVA University of Lisbon (DCR/FCT-UNL) and a Research scientist at REQUIMTE. She holds a PhD in Physical Chemistry (1995) and made her PostDoc (1996-98) at CNR – Opere d’Arte-Florence, Italy. Main scientific areas of research are: Colour in Art and Nature, Medieval Illuminations, Historic Dyes, Conservation of Contemporary Art. She is the author of over 60 publications in scientific journals listed in ISI (h-factor of 21); and participates, regularly, in national and international congresses, having presented more than 80 oral communications and posters.
