Elke Cwiertnia is a conservation scientist working at the Deutsches Museum Munich. She is interested in the contextualisation of scientific analyses of cultural heritage objects and improving conservation treatments, especially for plastic objects.
She holds a diploma in art technology, conservation and restoration of cultural heritage from the University of Fine Arts Dresden and a PhD in Analytical Science from Northumbria University. Previously she was involved in the Wax Seals: Materials and Context Project at The National Archives, UK (2014-2015) and the Francis Bacon Project at Northumbria University in collaboration with the Estate of Francis Bacon (2010-2014).
